Collection Corner: Baby Gown
“Delivery of a fine boy today….Delighted” reads the entry in Ida Cason Callaway’s medical journal on 1/1/1907. A New Year’s Day baby and very likely the first child born in LaGrange that year. That fine baby boy was none other than Fuller Earle Callaway Jr., the second son of Fuller Callaway Sr. and his wife Ida.
We are very pleased that Fuller Jr.’s batiste linen gown was recently donated to the estate by Deborah C. Callaway. According to Suellen Dolan, Tour Coordinator: “It’s a very meaningful piece, and we are so thankful that it will be preserved.” The next time you visit the estate make sure you go up to the nursery and take a look at this precious gown.
