A Squirrel Named Earle – New Fox Squirrel Mascot
Most historic homes and gardens across the country attract an adult audience. Hills & Dales Estate is no exception, but soon the new children’s activity guide will help to make the Callaway estate a more child-friendly place. The 12-page guide will include a number of fun, learning activities for students to do while they are at the estate. It features a word find, maze, matching games, cross word puzzle and numerous other activities. Students who complete the Great Hunt activity can return their answers to the Visitor Center and receive a small prize.
The full-color activity guide also features our new fox squirrel mascot ‘Earle the Squirrel’. According to Sondra Bowie who is coordinating the Activity Guide: “We have a fox squirrel that lives here at the estate so it seemed like the perfect mascot.” The name ‘Earle the Squirrel’ was suggested by Micaela Wright, a 5th grader at West Side Magnet School. Micaela’s entry was selected from approximately 300 names submitted during a mascot naming contest that was open to K-5th graders across Troup County. It was chosen because it rhymes and because Earle was Fuller Callaway’s middle name.
