A Bittersweet Day
On July 31st Rosa Sims, a longtime employee of Hills & Dales Estate, retired with over forty years of service. Rosa began her career at the estate in the 1960s helping Fuller and Alice Callaway in the house. Over the years, Rosa assisted with almost all aspects of operating the home, from serving as the laundress to helping in the kitchen. In fact, for the last nine years Rosa has single-handedly kept the entire home clean and spotless.
According to Speer Burdette, President of Fuller E. Callaway Foundation, “Rosa has been a remarkably loyal employee for both the foundation and the Callaway family. Rosa exemplifies what it means to be kind, caring and committed. She is indeed an outstanding person, and while we are sad to see Rosa leave, we wish her a wonderful retirement.”
Rosa says that she hopes to spend part of her newly discovered free time cultivating a flower and vegetable garden at her home.
