Each year thousands of people tour the house and gardens, while others use the estate for special events. Some of our visitors come as families or individuals but we also host bus groups, senior travel groups, garden clubs, churches and school groups. We frequently encounter interesting visitors from unexpected places. Recently, three sisters from three different states met here and spent the day touring and picnicking. Two ladies from Alaska, who love historic homes, came to tour while attending a conference in Atlanta.
Most of the time our distant visitors come with a relative or friend who they are visiting in the area. This was the case with first time visitor, Linda Hawley of Fayetteville, Georgia, who heard about Hills & Dales from one of her clients. When her sister from Montana came for a visit, Linda decided that it was the perfect time to check out the estate; so, Linda, her husband, Rob, and their Montana visitor headed for LaGrange. Linda said, “I was surprised! This place in LaGrange is beautiful! We loved the visitor center, the video which introduced us to the history and the family and we enjoyed all the cool displays. That was impressive but when we started the tram ride up to the house itself… Wow! We were ‘blown away’ by that view of the estate. The tour was very enjoyable. The original furniture was impressive. Love the kitchen and the 3rd floor. The map which guided us through the garden was helpful… My sister knows plants and dashed from place to place identifying them… This was one of my favorite days during Susan’s visit to Georgia!”
